WHISPERS THROUGH THE WILLOWS
THE WORLD OF KENNETH GRAHAME
On the surface, Grahame's career was a spectacular success, rising in the City of London to become Secretary of the Bank of England, and making himself into a best-selling author in his spare time. Underneath this was to be found a diffident man of no great ambition, who was at his happiest frittering away his life in boats or travelling. The contrasts in his life were to lead him to an attempt to retire from all responsibility, bringing in its wake tragedy.
PETER PAN & J.M. BARRIE
THE BOYS WHO WOULDN'T GROW UP
"The
life of every man is a diary in which he means to write one story and writes
another." noted J.M. Barrie. The story he most famously wrote was that of
Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up, and without meaning to do so, wrote his
own. Our program looks at the man and his works, as
well as his involvement with the family that provided the immediate inspiration
for the boy from Neverland, a family whose history was to prove as tragic as
his own.
